Assit. Prof. Dr. Damla Taskin

Dr. Damla Taşkın is a distinguished academic and researcher currently serving as a faculty member at International Suleiman University within the Faculty of Business and Management, as well as at Ankara Bilim University within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. She earned her Ph.D. from International Suleiman University in 2023, a significant achievement that reflects her scientific excellence and advanced specialization in the fields of international migration law, human rights, and security studies.
Dr. Taşkın’s research focuses on the complex interplay between international migration policies, human rights frameworks, and national security challenges. Her studies deeply explore how migration is managed within the context of international laws and standards and the impact this has on the protection of vulnerable groups and migrants. Through her in-depth research, she examines the legal, social, and political dimensions of migration, with a particular focus on Turkey’s role as a key hub in migration flows and its humanitarian and legal responsibilities internationally.
Among her most notable contributions is her detailed analysis of Turkey’s migration management policies, assessing the extent to which these policies align with international migration law and human rights obligations. In her well-known article titled “An Analysis of the Relationship between Turkey’s Migration Management, Human Rights Context, International Migration Law, and Turkish Migration Legislation,” Dr. Taşkın provides a critical evaluation of the relationships and tensions between national legislation and international standards, highlighting the challenges states face in harmonizing domestic laws with global rules, especially in regions experiencing significant migratory pressures.
In addition to her focus on legal frameworks, Dr. Taşkın explores migration from a national security perspective, with an emphasis on health security. Her research discusses how migration intersects with public health and security policies, as evident in her article published in the journal Turkish Studies titled “Migration as a Security Phenomenon: A National Health Security Perspective.” This study offers important insights into how states perceive and manage health risks associated with population movements, a subject that gained great importance during global health crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
Her research approach also extends to the anthropological and social aspects of mass migrations during epidemics, where she analyzes the impacts and challenges arising during health crises and stresses the need for comprehensive policies addressing both humanitarian and security dimensions.
Throughout her academic career, Dr. Taşkın has maintained an active presence in scholarly communities through publishing in peer-reviewed journals and participating in international conferences that bridge legal studies, human rights, and migration policies. She also demonstrates a commitment to advancing scientific research through her engagement on academic platforms such as Academia.edu, where she shares her research and collaborates with colleagues worldwide.
Dr. Damla Taşkın’s work represents a valuable contribution that enriches academic discourse on migration and human rights and provides practical insights for policymakers facing complex challenges in this field. Her scholarly work stands as evidence of the vital role rigorous research plays in shaping humane, just, and effective migration governance policies in an increasingly interconnected world.
